Unsettled Pattern Through Easter Weekend; Few Storm Risks

GOOD FRIDAY: Heading toward the Easter holiday weekend, the weather will begin to shift again through the latter part of your day. Expect sunshine to kick off, giving way to clouds building back in with a few showers developing by late Friday afternoon, early evening. Highs will top out in the upper 70s and lower 80s. We’ll only fall to the middle to upper 60s by early Saturday morning with a scattering of showers and storms. 


EASTER WEEKEND: Another unsettled period looks to emerge over the weekend, bringing scattered, off and on storm chances. Saturday – expect rain chances to be more prevalent early north of I-20, shifting south of the interstate late in the day. Highs north of I-20 will be in the 70s to near 80; south of I-20, in the lower to middle 80s. Coverage will taper through the evening hours. More scattered opportunities will emerge through Easter Sunday, but neither Saturday or Sunday will be complete washout. Highs Sunday will be in the 70s to lower 80s. Occasionally, storms could feature strong winds and hail – the risk for severe weather remains limited and isolated. A front will slip through late Sunday into early Monday – clearing out in time to start of the new work week.

EXTENDED FORECAST: In the wake of the front, we’ll trend slightly cooler early week with highs in the lower to middle 70s; eventually warming back into the 80s mid-week. A weak front will help to facilitate a few showers late Wednesday into Thursday. We’ll trend even warmer through late week with highs in the middle 80s with mostly to partly sunny skies.

Much Quieter, Calmer Late Week; Stormy Periods Easter Weekend

THURSDAY: A much quieter picture in the wake of a stormy late Wednesday – expect skies to continue clearing early with sunshine becoming more dominant. After a start in the 50s, highs will top out in the 70s. We’ll stay mostly to partly clear as lows fall back into the upper 40s and lower 50s.

A few showers and storms could sneak back in by late Wednesday into Thursday of next week amid highs returning to the lower 80s.

ALERT DAY: Multiple Waves of Storms Possible Late Wednesday

ALERT DAY WEDNESDAY: Another risk for storms emerges that looks be disruptive for many during the late afternoon into evening and overnight period – featuring a risk for damaging winds, tornadoes and hail. Eyes will be on potential pre-frontal storms Wednesday afternoon/evening - though a squall line will likely shift through the area during the late evening into the overnight period. Before this – morning storms and clouds will give way to sun breaks by mid-day with highs skyrocketing into the 80s amid an aggressive south wind – gusting 30-40 mph. We encourage heightened weather awareness during this time.

TUESDAY: We’ll flip the rain chance opportunity from the morning hours to the late afternoon for Tuesday. A few patches of fog may kick off the day, we’ll be mostly dry. Amid variably cloudy skies, we’ll warm into the lower to middle 80s. By late afternoon, storm chances emerge from the west – a brief window Tuesday evening may feature a strong to severe storm with strong winds and spin-up tornado risk. We encourage you to stay weather aware during this time – we'll see most of the storm exiting by midnight with lows falling into the 60s.

MONDAY: A quick hitting opportunity for showers and storms will shift across central and southwest Mississippi to kick off your new work and school week – this could cause issues for the morning commute. Severe weather isn’t anticipated with this; most of the rain and storms should exit by midday. Expect sun breaks between the clouds this afternoon amid balmy winds kicking up from the south – highs top out in the 80s. We’ll stay quiet overnight with partly clear skies. Lows will bottom out in the 60s.

Cool, Windy Friday; Quiet Weekend Ahead of Unsettled Pattern

FRIDAY: An upper low pinwheeling over the Great Lakes region will bring in cooler air across central and southwest Mississippi to round out the week. Sunshine will win out the beginning of the day, but clouds will roll in for areas north of I-20 through the afternoon hours with highs in the 60s amid cool breezes. Clouds will gradually clear overnight with lows falling back into the 30s to near 40. A few patches of frost could be possible north/east of Metro Jackson.  


WEEKEND PLANNER: After a chilly start to Saturday – we'll see a nice rebound through the weekend – and quickly too. Expect highs on Saturday to head for the upper 60s and lower 70s by the afternoon hours amid mainly sunny skies. Sunshine will hang around for Sunday – with a south breeze taking hold – morning 40s won’t stand a chance; running up toward the lower 80s. Clouds will thicken Sunday night with a risk for a few showers – though most will stay dry.  
 
EXTENDED FORECAST: Our pattern turns murkier next week with high pressure anchored off the southeast coast; yielding periods of rain and storms through much of next week – likely hitting a peak with an approaching front Wednesday or Thursday that could feature a few stronger storms. Highs will top out in the upper 70s and lower 80s. In the wake of the front, seasonably cool air filter in by late week with highs in the 70s, lows in the 40s and 50s.

THURSDAY: In the wake of our multiple fronts, we’ll finally get a quiet day across central and southwest Mississippi. Expect sunny skies with a few clouds developing by the afternoon hours – we'll rebound into the 60s to near 70 with cool northerly breeze. A rogue early evening shower is possible. We’ll be mostly clear overnight with lows in the lower to middle 40s.

Quiet, Warm Monday; Storm Threat Returns Pre-Dawn Tuesday

MONDAY: As high pressure scoots farther east, our next system looms in the western sky. Expect a mix of clouds and sun through the day with highs in the 80s after a start in the 50s. We’ll remain dry through the day, but chances for rain and storms will increase after midnight – with a chance for severe storms before sunrise Tuesday. We encourage heightened weather awareness during this time.  


ALERT DAY TUESDAY: A complex of storms will be ongoing to start Tuesday off. Prior to sunrise, a batch of storms moving through Mississippi could yield strong, damaging wind, a few tornadoes and heavy rain that could produce localized flooding. Most of the storms will be out before mid-day as it exits eastward. We’ll watch for any redeveloping scattered activity for the afternoon period as temperatures rebound into the 70s to lower 80s. We’ll trend quiet overnight with lows in the 60s. 

 
EXTENDED FORECAST: Another risk for storms looks to emerge by Wednesday afternoon as another system drops in behind our Tuesday storms. While, locally, the potential for storms looks lower, we will still carry a risk for the storms that do develop could become strong by late morning into the afternoon hours with highs in the 80s. Behind this system, the Canadian Express ushers in much cooler air to round out the work week with highs in the 60s, lows in the 30s and 40s. We’ll quickly rebound into the 70s and 80s again by Sunday and into the start of next week.
