TUESDAY: More sunshine will help continue to quiet weather trend through Tuesday. We’ll start off in the 30s, warming to the upper 60s and lower 70s as winds begin to pick up gradually through the day off the Gulf of Mexico. We’ll stay mostly clear overnight with lows in the 40s to near 50.
EXTENDED FORECAST: Our pattern remains set up for a risk for heavy rainfall and strong storm to invade the region through mid-late parts of the week. Wednesday will warm and breezy as deeper moisture begins to gradually filter in. Highs will top out in the 70s with a few afternoon showers possible. Rain chances increase through early Thursday morning as a strong front approaches the area. We keep a risk for a few strong to severe storms as the line shifts through – tapering off through Thursday evening. Timing and impacts will continue to be fine-tuned this week. In the front’s wake, we’ll trend cooler Friday and Saturday before another warming and unsettled trend returns Sunday and into early next week.

Quiet Pattern To Break Briefly For Approaching Front
FRIDAY: Bright sunshine and quiet weather hold again to round out this nearly perfect weather week. Expect highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s as winds pick up a bit from the south ahead of our next frontal boundary due in this weekend. We’ll stay quiet and clear overnight with lows in the 40s.
FIRE DANGER CONTINUES: With our ongoing dry stretch, continuing drought and low humidity, fire danger remains elevated through the end of the work week. Open burning is discouraged. Heed any local burn bans and be cognizant of disposal of smoking products properly.
WEEKEND PLANNER: A pair of cold fronts will slip into the area through Saturday – ushering a brief blast of chilly air through the weekend. Expect sunshine to give way to clouds as the front slips south through the day. Highs will top out in the 50s and 60s, dropping through the afternoon hours – a rogue shower or two can’t be ruled out. With cold air aloft, a few sleet pellets or snowflakes could mix in with the rain with no consequence. Skies will clear out overnight with lows in the 20s and 30s. We’ll rebound into the 50s by Sunday amid mainly sunny skies as the front shifts out of the area.
EXTENDED RANGE: High pressure will sneak back into the region through the early parts of the week. Quickly, temperatures will warm back to near 60 Monday, 60s and 70s return through mid-week ahead of heavy rain and strong storm potential late week.

Expect highs to creep into the 60s to near 70 late week. Another system will drop southward Saturday into Sunday, bringing in another surge of cooler air by Sunday. Quiet, Milder Days Ahead
MONDAY: A weak system will kick up clouds to start off the work week across central and southwest Mississippi. After another cold morning in the upper 20s and lower 30s; we’ll gradually warm up into the 50s by afternoon. As high pressure slips south, we’ll slowly clear out from northwest to southeast. With clear skies, we’ll drop off quickly with lows, again, in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Cold, Blustery Friday; Brighter Weekend Ahead
FRIDAY: A cold and blustery day across the area as moisture finally starts to move away from the region and the Arctic air settles in. Slick bridges and overpasses could be a part of the morning commute. Expect clouds and a few patches of freezing drizzle prior to 9 AM to hang out with highs in the 30s to near 40 amid brisk wind chills in the 20s to near 30 coming off the snow and ice pack to our north. Clouds will slow break late and into the overnight period with lows dropping deep into the 20s.
WEEKEND PLANNER: Sunshine will ultimately win out the day with temperatures warming into the 40s to lower 50s after starting off deep in the 20s. Another cold night will come Saturday into Sunday – with lows in the 20s again. More sunshine will help to push highs back into the lower to middle 50s by Sunday afternoon.
EXTENDED RANGE: A weak upper disturbance will swing a dry front through the area Monday, knocking our temperatures back a few notches. We’ll remain dry and quiet through the work week ahead with a warming trend to commence toward the 60s.

Rain, Storms, Freezing Rain - All in a Day in Mississippi
THURSDAY: An impact day for most as a sluggish storm system will yield a few pockets of strong storms through early Thursday. In addition to the storm risk, heavy rain will turn likely as the front makes its way toward the east. Highest risk for a few strong storms will be generally along and SE of the Natchez Trace. General rainfall totals could be 1-3" before the system exits. Temperatures will tumble from the 60s early to the 40s by the end of the day. We’ll bottom out near freezing; with moisture sluggishly exiting the area, the potential remains for an area of freezing rain to develop, mainly N/W of Metro Jackson, where minor impacts could be felt with ice coating some cold surfaces. Farther south, freezing rain could be possible, but should come with little to no consequence.

WEDNESDAY: Scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder will emerge to start off the day. On and off chance for rain will continue through the day. A band of heavier rain could develop through the late afternoon hours and bring pockets of localized flooding. Chances for storms will continue overnight. A few could be heavy and strong by early Thursday morning. Lows will only drop to the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Mild, Breezy Tuesday; Sluggish, Sloppy System Mid-Late Week
TUESDAY: We’ll start off with a mix of clouds and sun – eventually, clouds thicken with a risk for a few showers emerging. Still, with the clouds, we’ll be able to sneak highs into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Wind will get a bit aggressive through the day – southerly at 10-20 mph with a few higher gusts. More showers will flow northward off the Gulf of Mexico overnight with lows in the 50s.
