Hit, Miss Storms Continue; More Numerous By Week's End
TUESDAY: Lather, rinse and repeat cycle remains the flavor the day and the week ahead. Expect an overall mix of clouds and sun with a risk for a few showers and storms. Similar to the last few days, the better chances will be generally across southwest Mississippi, but all zones run a risk for a few storms bubbling up with the daytime heating. Highs will run near 90 in southwest Mississippi, to the lower and middle 90s elsewhere; lows will fall to the 70s by early Wednesday with partly clear skies.

June Heat, Humidity and Pop-Up Storms Continue Into Weekend
FRIDAY: Similar to Thursday – a few afternoon downpours may develop around the region with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s amid a mix of clouds and sun. We don’t anticipate a washout by any stretch – but don’t be surprised to run into a heavy downpour through the latter parts of the day. Storms will tend to fade after sunset as lows fall to the lower to middle 70s.
WEEKEND PLANNER: Neither Saturday nor Sunday will feature a washout, but a few pop-up storms can’t be ruled out on either one day. Expect a mix of clouds and sun with highs, generally, in the lower 90s; overnights falling into the lower 70s.
EXTENDED PLANNER: With high pressure off the eastern seaboard and a nearly stalled front to our northwest, we’ll see daily opportunities of scattered showers and storms through much of next week, but even then, it won’t be a complete washout. Most activity will flare up around lunchtime and fall about with a few hours of sunset. Highs will top out on either side of 90 by a degree or two each day, with lows in the 70s. The front will edge a little closer by late week, kicking up coverage a bit as we approach the Independence Day holiday weekend.

Downpours At Times Monday, Tuesday
MONDAY: Kicking off the new work week with an uptick in rain chances through the latter part of the day. Expect skies gradually get cloudier through the day with scattered to numerous storms developing by the afternoon hours. Ahead of the storms flaring up – expect highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Storms will continue into Monday night as a front begins to slip farther south. Lows will fall to the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Tropical Downpours Rotate In Late Friday, Into Weekend
FRIDAY: Potential Tropical Cyclone 3 will help to kick in more clouds as the day wears on across central and southwest Mississippi. By the afternoon hours, a few showers and storms may rotate in, mainly south of I-20. Highs will still top out in the lower 90s; 80s south. Clouds overspread the area Friday with rain chances increasing into early Saturday as the low moves closer to the northern Gulf Coast.
WEEKEND PLANNER: As the storm moves ashore late Friday into early Saturday – expect rain coverage to click up through Saturday morning. Heaviest rain and storm impacts look to stay S/E of Metro Jackson; though periodic tropical downpours will continue rotate over the area. AN isolated rotating shower or two could produce a spin-up tornado. Expect highs in the lower 80s Saturday. While the low will gradually lift out of the area Sunday, lingering moisture will help spark scattered downpours at times with highs rebounding into the upper 80s.
EXTENDED FORECAST: While our storm system will have left the region, the lingering tropical moisture will keep the weather unsettled through early week. Expect a front to approach the area to help kick off scattered to numerous storms through mid-week. We’ll top out near 90 Monday before falling back to the middle 80s Tuesday and Wednesday. Gradually, in the wake of the front, expect rain coverage to tamp down by week’s end with highs nearing 90 once again.

Quiet Thursday; Tropical Downpours Late Friday, Into Weekend
THURSDAY: Sunshine continues to shine down on central and southwest Mississippi through Thursday – easterly breeze flow will keep us quiet and dry through the day. Morning 60s and 70s will give way to seasonable lower 90s by the afternoon hours with tolerable humidity levels.
FRIDAY: The approaching tropical disturbance will help to kick in more clouds as the day wears on across central and southwest Mississippi. By the afternoon hours, a few showers and storms may rotate in, mainly south of I-20. Highs will still top out in the lower 90s; 80s south. Clouds overspread the area Friday with rain chances increasing into early Saturday as the low moves closer to the northern Gulf Coast.
EXTENDED FORECAST: Our forecast hinges on the ultimate track of this Gulf disturbance that has heightened chance to become a system in western Gulf of Mexico. With most weaker systems, they tend to be more lopsided with rain and storms on their eastern periphery. At this point, impacts look possible, which will likely feature periods of heavy rain, gusty breezes and the potential for spin-up tornado or two Saturday into Sunday. System will exit early in the week, but lingering tropical moisture and an approaching front will help to spark more rain and storms through mid-next week.

WEDNESDAY: Winds will shift out of the north/northeast through mid-week, driving in slightly drier air to central and southwest Mississippi through mid-week. Expect highs, mainly, in the lower 90s with mostly sunny skies. While a rogue shower could still form, the vast majority of zip codes will remain dry and hot. We’ll see lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s again.
