REST OF THURSDAY: Periods of rain and storms will continue to pinwheel around TD Harvey's circulation through the rest of the day. Expect gusty winds at times (upward of 40 mph) in some of the heavier downpours. Temperatures will stay cool, only topping out near 80°. Rain showers will continue tonight off and on, before tapering after midnight as Harvey exits, lows will drop to the upper 60s to near 70.
FRIDAY: Expect improving weather through Friday – a few morning showers will give way to partly cloudy skies and slackening breezes. Highs will top out in the middle 80s; with lower humidity values, it'll set the stage for a nice night for high school football, as temperatures drop into 60s overnight.
WEEKEND THOUGHTS: Have any weekend plans? Get out and enjoy them. High pressure will build over the region to help bring back sunshine amid slightly drier air, that for some, may feel "fall-ish" as roll into the first weekend of September. Highs will top out in the upper 80s to near 90; lows in the middle to upper 60s.
NEXT WEEK: We'll start the week off quiet amid partly sunny skies and a small chance of a few showers south of I-20 on Monday. Highs will top out near 90. Through the middle and latter half of the week, the weather will get a bit more complicated with the approach of a stout cold front and the possibility of a weak Gulf low developing that could help to bring rounds of downpours to the region by Tuesday into early Wednesday. Behind the front, expect a 'fall preview' with sunshine returning and highs near 80, lows dropping to the lower 60s.
TROPICS: Tropical Depression Harvey will continue to lose its steam as pushes northward through the next few days, eventually leaving central Mississippi through early Friday. Out in the far eastern Atlantic, Hurricane Irma is poised to strengthen over the coming days to 'major hurricane', but is still a LONG way from getting anywhere close to the United States. We'll continue to monitor it – while closer to a home, a system may try to develop in the southwest Gulf through mid-next week, that could help to bring better chances for rain the region by that time.
