Clearing & Cooler

Clouds are clearing this afternoon in the wake of a cold front. Even though sunshine is returning, we are much cooler day thanks to the front; highs hold in the 50s along with a chilly north wind.

Clear and cold tonight as morning lows dip into the 30s.

A warming trend begins Thursday leading to yet another unseasonably warm weekend; temperatures reach the 70s Saturday and near 80 on Sunday. In terms of rain, we'll mention the chance for a few showers or storms Friday night into Saturday.

Evening Rain, Storms

Some quick weather changes ahead... Rain and storms increase this afternoon and evening; a few strong storms are possible with the potential for gusty wind, hail, and we can't completely rule out a tornado, although the overall sever threat is low. As a course of least regret, make sure you pay attention to the weather this evening and have a reliable source for receiving warnings, such as the WLBT First Alert Weather App and a NOAA Weather Radio.

Clearing and turning cooler Wednesday, followed by another warming trend that will lead to spring like weather again this weekend.

Warm and Humid Sunday; Few Showers

Another warm, humid spring like day ahead... After reaching the upper 70s and low 80s Saturday, we remain warm today with highs in the 70s. Also, scattered showers will develop; it will not rain all day or everywhere, but if you have outdoor plans, be prepared for a passing shower at any point. Otherwise, mostly cloudy.

Turning cooler Monday and next week as highs drop to the 50s and 60s. Rain becomes widespread Tuesday night into Wednesday, followed by seasonably cool and dry weather.

Warm, Muggy and Breezy Saturday

SATURDAY: Expect variably to mostly cloudy skies throughout much of the day – all amid warm temperatures, still pushing 80° during the afternoon hours. Rain chances, overall, will be slim but we can't rule out a few spotty showers here and there. Tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies with lows in the middle 60s. 

SUNDAY: Most of the day should be fairly dry – though a few spotty showers may flare up ahead of a front that will drop through the region late in the afternoon. Out ahead of the front – temperatures will be in the upper 70s. Cooler air will filter in overnight with some clearing of the skies – lows will drop into the 40s mainly. 

EARLY WEEK: Expect an unsettled start to the upcoming work week – Monday and most of Tuesday will be cooler with clouds and an option for a few showers. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will be in the lower and middle 60s. By late Tuesday and through Wednesday, a storm system will push pas t the area, bringing with it cooler air and a bout of showers and storms. Highs Wednesday will only manage the 50s. 

LATE WEEK: We'll stay cool for Thursday – though we'll contend with much more sunshine behind the storm system. Temperatures will begin to head back to 'above-normal' by Friday – with highs in the middle and upper 60s.

Cool and Dry

TODAY: After a stretch of Spring-like weather, we're starting out cooler this morning in the wake of a cold front; most spots are in the upper 30s and low 40s, which is near average for February. Lots of sunshine this afternoon, but chilly with highs in the 50s. 

TOMORROW: Dipping into the low and middle 30s by sunrise, followed by another big warmup as afternoon temperatures reach the upper 60s to near 70.

WEEKEND: Warm with highs in the 70s under a mix of sun & clouds. A brief shower is possible, but nothing widespread.

Warm, Muggy and Breezy Wednesday

WEDNESDAY: A foggy and dreary start for many across the region will eventually turn brighter and quite warm for the mid-part of the work week. Rain chances will be low throughout much of the day with highs running for the upper 70s and lower 80s. A cold front will push past the region this evening, bringing a chance for a few storms for the early evening hours. Behind it, cooler air will filter in – allowing for temperatures to drop into the 40s.  
 
THURSDAY: Behind the front – expect a much cooler day; highs on Thursday will only manage the upper 50s to lower 60s amid mostly sunny skies. We'll drop close to freezing overnight under clearing skies and light breezes.  
 
INTO THE WEEKEND: Friday will feature a chilly start with a mild finish – with highs in the upper 60s to near 70° under mainly sunny skies. Moisture will begin to return into Saturday, along with near-record warmth again. Highs Saturday will top out in the upper 70s with a chance for a few hit and miss showers or storms. The same scenario will play out for Sunday, but just a touch warmer – nearing 80°. 
 
NEXT WEEK: The weather pattern may turn a bit more unsettled again with a few systems pushing along the Gulf Coast – this will bring some cooler temperatures by the latter part of the forecast period with showers and storms. Bouts of heavy rain are possible that could total up to 1 – 3" through Tuesday.

Afternoon Update

The initial batch of storms that moved through this morning is pushing into Alabama. Additional isolated storms are now in progress and redeveloping across Central and South Mississippi. Storms are producing large hail and gusty wind. The tornado threat is low, but still possible; the tornado watch has been extended until 5pm for the counties along and east of the I-55 corridor. However, many counties will likely be cancelled before 5 o'clock.

Sunday Showers

A warmer, but somewhat wet Sunday... Scattered showers are increasing, meaning occasional rain this morning into the afternoon; totals will remain light, but if you have outdoor plans, expect a passing shower at any point. Despite the clouds and rain, temperatures are warmer with highs in the 60s.

A more significant system arrives Tuesday, bringing the potential for some strong to severe storms. Overall, the severe threat is on the lower end as of now, but something we'll need to watch closely; some storms will have the potential to produce damaging wind, large hail, and even a tornado.

Longer term, turning cooler by the end of next week.

Cold Morning, Moisture Increasing

Starting out cold this morning with most spots near freezing. We stay dry today, but clouds will begin increasing in advance of an approaching disturbance. Otherwise, temperatures reach the middle 50s.

Showers arrive tonight and will continue at times Sunday; we're not expecting a widespread, constant rain, but be prepared for a passing shower at any point.

A stronger system arrives Tuesday, bringing a round of strong to severe storms. We'll keep you posted over the coming days.

Moisture Returning; Turning Cooler

Clouds increasing as moisture returns. A few showers are possible this evening, but only spotty and light. Once again, unseasonably warm this afternoon with temperatures in the middle and upper 70s!

A cold front is slowly approaching from the north and will cause a significant temperature contrast across the state Thursday, along with some spotty showers both days. Points along and north of I-20 will fall into the 40s and 50s tomorrow afternoon while South Mississippi soars into the 70s.

Additional showers arrive Saturday night and Sunday morning, then a stronger system will bring a chance for severe weather by Tuesday.Please check back for updates on timing and specific threats.
