Dry and pleasant this afternoon with temperatures in the middle to upper 60s. Clouds are increasing as moisture returns in advance of a system that will bring rain to Mississippi this weekend. Showers increase in coverage Saturday morning, then become heavier and more widespread throughout the afternoon and into Sunday. On average, we're expecting 1 to 3 inches, which would be a tremendous help for our drought conditions. Temperatures hold in the 50s Saturday, then low 60s Sunday.
Warmer, unstable air surges into the state Monday, increasing the threat for strong to severe storms. At this point, we're expecting the greatest potential for severe weather in South and East Mississippi, Monday afternoon and evening.
Longer term, a shot of very cold air blows in for the second half of next week. We're projecting highs in the 40s by Thursday with sub freezing lows. Get ready for a wild weather roller coaster!
