Showers Increasing

Mostly cloudy this evening with a scattering of showers in West Mississippi. The more persistent rain will remain west of the state. Due to the clouds, temperatures fall slowly tonight with morning lows in the lower 60s. 

Periods of showers continue Wednesday, followed by widespread rain and storms Thursday. The severe threat is limited, but gusty wind and hail are possible.

Improving weather for the weekend; sunshine returns with highs in the low 80s Saturday, then middle 80s Sunday.

Warm & Unsettled

Another warm, dry day but changes are ahead...

Afternoon highs reached the upper 70s to near 80, which is slightly above average for mid April. The pattern becomes more unsettled over the coming days. Storms increase in West Mississippi Tuesday and will slowly shift east Tuesday evening into Wednesday. Storms become more widespread Thursday; the overall severe threat is limited, but gusty wind and hail are possible. Rain ends Friday morning followed by improving weather for the weekend; sunshine returns with highs in the 80s both days.

11:30 AM Check

A severe thunderstorm warning continues for Warren County until 12:15. Hail and damaging straight line wind are the primary severe threats; also, the storm is producing heavy rain and frequent lightning. It will continue moving east along the I-20 corridor. If it maintains intensity, additional warnings will be required for points east, including the Jackson Metro.

Additional scattered storms develop this afternoon with the potential for damaging straight line wind and large hail.

Showers Continue

Morning: Rain and a few thunderstorms push into the southwestern corner of the state, with showers moving as far north as the I-20 corridor. Areas along and south of Hwy 84 will deal with the heaviest rain during the morning commute. Temperatures are in the mid 50s to low 60s.

Afternoon: The morning rain fades away by lunchtime, but spotty rain and thunder will redevelop. Expect to see on-and-off style showers and thunderstorms with otherwise mostly cloudy skies. Highs are in the upper 60s and low 70s.

Next Few Days: Showers and storms will be hit or miss through Thursday with a slight chance for rain and storms on Friday. High temps are in the upper 60s and low 70s to finish off the work week.

Weekend: Temperatures are in the mid and upper 70s. As of now the weekend will mainly be rain-free.

Dry Today

Today: The worst of the rain and storms has ended. Morning showers in southern Mississippi linger around after the flooding rains that we dealt with yesterday and last night. Today we'll be in a slow drying trend. Most will see clouds through the majority of the day with some breaks of sunshine. The high will be in the low 70s with winds out of the northeast at 5-15 mph.

Next Few Days: I'm watching a storm system that will bring additional rounds of rain to the area on Wednesday and Thursday. The rain isn't expected to be as heavy or widespread. Temperatures will be in the low and mid 70s.

This Weekend: We'll be in a drying pattern with highs in the mid and upper 70s on both Saturday and Sunday. Skies will be mostly sunny.

Early Evening Update

As of 6:30, a line of heavy rain with strong to severe storms is located along the I-20 corridor, slowly drifting south. Damaging straight line wind, large hail, flash flooding, and frequent lightning are all possible within the line.

The main line will reach South Mississippi, near the U.S. 84 corridor between 8pm and 10pm, then U.S. 98 between 10pm and midnight. The severe threat will decrease a bit throughout the evening, but some severe storms remain possible into the night, especially south of I-20. Flash flooding is also a significant concern. If you live of a flood prone area, keep a close eye on the rising water; and as always, never drive through standing water.
