FRANKLINTON...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 30 MPH.
HAZARD...TORNADO.
SOURCE...RADAR INDICATED ROTATION.

Heather's Saturday morning weather forecast
We've been talking about it for days now and the it's here! I'm talking about the rain on Halloween! We'll continue to see the rain spread over central Mississippi this morning. Heavy rain will fall at times especially this afternoon. Temperatures throughout the day will only fluctuate by a few degrees because of the clouds and rain. We'll see temperatures max out in the low 70s.By the time the heavy rain moves out of here tonight, we could see some towns receive up to 3" of rain!
Severe weather? We could see a gusty storm or two but overall this is going to be a heavy rain event. We'll have the potential for some flash flooding - but otherwise there's a low end risk for strong storms today.
Tonight we can expect a brief break from the rain before it arrives again by morning. Some of us will wake up to light scattered showers. We're going with a 40% chance of rain on Sunday.
Daylight saving time ends and that means we get an extra hour of sleep tonight! Be sure to check back for frequent weather updates on TV, on social media and here on our blog throughout the weekend as we're monitoring the weather closely in the First Alert Weather Center!

Dry Tonight; Wet Halloween
Big changes ahead this weekend...
TONIGHT: Halloween activities & football games are in good shape; even though clouds increase throughout the evening, we remain dry.
SATURDAY: A mass of rain with embedded storms arrive from the west tomorrow morning and will increase in coverage throughout the morning, becoming widespread and heavy by afternoon. On average, we're expecting 1-3 inches with the potential for higher amounts and localized flash flooding.
Fortunately, the severe threat is very limited, although a few strong storms are possible. Showers linger into Sunday morning, but will decrease in coverage by afternoon.
NEXT WEEK: Longer term, temperatures will run above average into next week with highs in the upper 70s & low 80s.

Julia Weiden's Friday Forecast
AM Commute: You're walking out into cooler but more seasonable temperatures this morning! Much of the commute will be spent in the 50s. Wear a long-sleeved layer, and don't forget your sunglasses! The glare will be bright this morning under full sunshine.
This Afternoon: Skies are mainly sunny through the first half of the day, but clouds will gradually fill in as the day progresses. It will be another warm day in the upper 70s and low 80s! Winds are light out of the east up to 15 mph.
Trick-or-Treat TONIGHT: For those who have had their trick-or-treat day rescheduled, you've got pretty decent conditions this evening! Skies will become mostly cloudy during the late afternoon and evening. Temperatures will be in the mid 70s near 5pm. They will dip into the upper 50s by 8pm. The sun sets at 6:12 PM.
Halloween Day: As we've been telling you all week, rain will be moving in on Saturday. While a few showers will be around in the morning, that will be the quietest part of the day. The bulk of the rain will overspread the area during the afternoon and evening (during trick-or-treat). This rain will be torrential at times and possibly cause localized flash flooding. A few strong thunderstorms with gusty winds are possible, but the severe weather threat is low. Rain continues into early Sunday morning. Temperatures top out in the low 70s.

What's Up With All the Ants??
We've had an interesting year for insects. First, the cicada invasion in early summer, and now... ANTS.
If you haven't noticed yet, give it some time because ant hills are popping up faster than a kernel in a hot bag of popcorn; literally overnight in many cases. These hills are beginning to look like a sea of small pitching mounds. Here's a photo I took today outside the WLBT studio.
So the question is, why now in late October? The answer... RAIN!. Until the soaking last weekend, we were dealing with one of the worst droughts in years across Central and South Mississippi. Many spots were running 10 to 12 inches below average since July. In order to escape hot and dry conditions, ant colonies move below ground seeking moisture and cooler temperatures; for the most part, they remained under ground all summer. Now that we're finally getting rain again (and lots of it) along with continued mild temperatures, ants are coming out of their cool, summer bungalow/hiatus to reap the benefits.
More rain arrives this weekend, and as temperatures remain above average expect more ant hills to pop up over the coming days.

JULIA'S FORECAST: Soaker of a Halloween!
Julia Weiden's Thursday Forecast
AM Commute: We have some lingering clouds this morning, but overall it should be a quiet drive in to school and work. The sun come up at 7:15 AM and the temperatures will be in the 60s through the morning drive.
Today & Friday: We'll have a pleasant but warm day in store! Highs hit the upper 70s and low 80s with mostly sunny skies and low humidity. There will be a light but noticeable breeze out of the west. Lows tonight drop into the low and mid 50s, which will make for a cooler start to our day on Friday. Friday will be nice again in the upper 70s/low 80s with mostly sunny skies.
Halloween Weekend: While the threat for severe weather will be low, Halloween will be a soggy day. Rain is forecast to move in first to the Delta near midday. Showers and some thunderstorms with gusty winds will overspread the area through the afternoon. The biggest concern is for heavy rain in the evening hours. The downpours will make it pretty nasty for the trick-or-treaters. As of now, there is some conflict in the weather models as to when the rain ends. The most recent trend shows the heaviest showers exiting our area by early Sunday morning with occasional showers through Sunday and Monday.
