A mild and wet weekend ahead... Our pattern remains unsettled over the coming days, including today. A few showers are possible this afternoon, but the more widespread rain will remain in North Mississippi; otherwise, mostly cloudy, warm, and muggy with afternoon highs in the upper 70s.
Showers become more widespread throughout the day Saturday, but we're expecting the heaviest rain to hold off until tomorrow night. Obviously, this will impact the St. Paddy's Parade and events in Jackson; even though it won't rain constantly, plan on getting wet at any point.
For Sunday, off and on showers along with a few thunderstorms. The severe threat is low, but as always this time of year, any storm that develops will be watched closely. Temperatures will run close to average both days with afternoon highs in the low 70s and morning lows near 60.
Also, the Spring/Vernal Equinox occurs today, marking the beginning of spring that technically begins this evening at 5:45. The equinox happens when the noon sun angle (or declination of the sun) is 90 degrees overhead (from horizon) at the equator. The sun angle will progressively increase in the Northern Hemisphere from now until the beginning of summer. The sun's angle determines intensity of solar rays and is the driver of our seasons, not distance from the sun; in fact, Earth is approximately 4 million miles closer to the sun during the Northern Hemisphere's winter months than summer...
