The perfect January weather continues! For the third straight day, we are running above average; our normal high for mid-January is 56 degrees. After dropping into the upper 20s and low 30s this morning (which is actually below average), thanks to lots of sunshine and a mild southwest breeze most spots soared into the upper 60s this afternoon- a good 10 to 15 degrees above average! The dramatic night to day temperature swing is due to very dry air in place across the state; dry air cools and warms more efficiently compared to moist air.
Unfortunately, this beautiful stretch won't last forever; clouds return tonight as the pattern becomes more unsettled. While temperatures return to the middle 60s Tuesday, there will be a noticeable increase in cloud cover compared to recent days, but still very pleasant for January standards.
Cooler air drops in here for the second half of this week; highs fall back into the upper 40s and low 50s Thursday and Friday. Also, we're expecting showers to develop during the day Thursday with rain becoming more widespread Thursday night into Friday morning.
Fortunately, the weekend looks dry and slightly warmer with near average weather for January; we're projecting highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s both days.
