Clouds are increasing in advance of storm system that will bring some significant changes over the next couple days.... Due to the clouds, we struggled to reach the middle 50s today, and on the flip side, the same clouds will hold temperatures up tonight; morning lows fall to the 37 to 41 degree range.
Mostly cloudy tomorrow; a few showers develop as the pattern becomes more unsettled. Rain will remain light and spotty through the evening, but that all changes Friday. A strong upper level disturbance currently located just off the West Coast will strengthen as it moves east over the next 24 to 36 hours, and will kick up a surface low along the Gulf of Mexico, spreading moisture into Mississippi. With sufficient upper level lift and abundant moisture, we're expecting a good soaking rain beginning Friday morning in Southwest Mississippi, then increases in coverage throughout the day. On average, rainfall totals will range between 1 and 2 inches with higher amounts possible in spots... Here's the latest rainfall forecast through early Saturday morning; keep in mind, this is a model but it lines up pretty well with our current thinking:
The rain ends Friday night and Saturday morning followed by a shot of cooler and drier air this weekend. Temperatures hold in the low to middle 50s Saturday afternoon, and upper 50s Sunday. Longer range, the latest model data is hinting that colder air will arrive in time for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day; we'll get more specific in the coming days.
